GROUP 2 Capalaba Cup favourite and equal track record holder Fernando Grand is a scratching from Sunday's $75,000 to the winner final.

Owner-trainer Gary Mackay said he had worked all week to overcome slight injuries the dog suffered after being hit in the catching pen when winning his Cup heat last week.

The Fernando Bale-Precious Sal dog had drawn the rails and Mackay was supremely confident the dog would win.

“But, he has hurt a hip support and is sore in the tensor muscle,” said Gary today.

“I've been working on it all week and every single day he gets better.

“But, I had to think of the dog and it is the right decision to scratch and scratch early.

“I've been advocating for a camera in all catching pens so trainers can actually see what happens to their dogs in this crucial part of a race.”

Visiting NSW sprinter Oscar Moses goes into the rails in the final.
