Opetaia Chasing Dubbo Feature Race Success

Top young Orange trainer Jay Opetaia is chasing finals berths in Dubbo's two feature races on Saturday - the Bill And Peg Miller 0-2 Win Heats.

EMERGING trainer Jay Opetaia will chase the biggest home track win of his short career in the two feature races on Brother Fox Heats night at Dubbo on Saturday.

In the past year, Opetaia won this year's Richmond Derby with Go Bears and Gunnedah's Chief Havoc Cup with Street Of Dreams.

Opetaia will rug up his two kennel stars in different heats of the Group 3 Brother Fox (516m).

Street Of Dreams returns from a six month injury enforced layoff when the son of Aston Dee Bee contests the first of four heats.

"He dropped a back leg muscle back in November at Wenty and I didn't think I'd have him ready for this but his last trial just gave me enough to have a go," Opetaia said.

"I'd been trialling him three and 400 at Richmond and he wasn't going any good.

"I trialled him at Dubbo two weeks ago and I near cried.

"He only went 23.30 but his run home was good so I stepped him up and trialled him 500 and he went 29.80.

"If they leave him alone, I reckon he can run in the (29.) 60s on Saturday night with a few green lights."

Go Bears competes in the third Brother Fox heat.

The son of My Redeemer hasn't been sighted since finishing out of the placings in The Ambrosoli on Golden Easter Egg Final night.

"He wasn't at his best through the Easter Egg Series so I gave him an easy couple of weeks and I think I've got him right," he said.

"He went 14.88 to the back in his trial last Saturday. That's close to the record.

"I reckon he's in the hardest heat so it's all at box rise but if he comes out and can lead, I think he'll be hard to beat.

"If he leads to the turn I think he'll run about 29.3 or four but if he doesn't lead I'll probably need to find another race for him next week."

Rounding out the Opetaia's Dubbo team on Saturday night is the newest addition to his kennel, a dog purchased on Facebook.

Opetaia seized the opportunity to secure Me Style which had been campaigning in South Australia since being purchased out of the Peter Lagogiane kennel back in March.

Me Style, the winner of two races, contests the Bill And Peg Miller 0-2 Win Heats (516m).

"I think she's got plenty of improvement in her," he said.

"This race is here and she's eligible to run in it, but I think with another month to six weeks she'll really start to hit her straps."
