Return Home Has Worked Wonders For Hey Wags

TRAINER Joanne Price has never been one to blow her own trumpet, but there is one thing she is quite certain of ... she knows her bloodlines.

JOANNE Price has never been one to blow her own trumpet, but there is one thing she is certain of … she knows her bloodlines.

On Saturday night at Ipswich, Joanne will have littermates Vixen Cruiser and Hey Wags (Bella Infrared-Crazy Vixon) in a Corporate Sprint final (431m).

Late in June, Joanne talked Victorian friends Sarah and Denver Melder into sending Hey Wags back home.

“Sarah and Denver bought four of the litter when they were 12 weeks old,” Price said.

“Hey Wags would trial OK but he was getting bashed around in his races and at his 13th start he finally won a race at Geelong.

“They decided to send him back to mum.”

Hey Wags went to Capalaba and Albion Park for trials after a settling in process, but it was when Joanne took him to Ipswich that the surprise arrived.

“He went 25.07 one trial morning and I could not believe it,” said Price.

“We put him into a race and he won in 24.95, then he backed up last week and went 25.05 and won again.

“Now, he's in a final and we give him a great chance.”

Joanne raced the dam Crazy Vixon which was a finalist in a Group 1 Brisbane Cup.

She puts the improvement in Hey Wags down to knowing her own line.

“We have a lot of patience with them, know what they want to get the best out of them and I suppose that's obvious with Hey Wags,” she said.

Hey Wags has drawn the four in the Carnival Sprint final at Ipswich on Saturday night and his sister Vixen Cruiser the three.

“Wags is the better of the two and the best chance on Saturday night,” said Joanne.
