Motherhood Parked For Coin Model's Cup Bid

HAD all gone to script, motherhood would have already beckoned for the 520m Richmond track record breaking Coin Model.

HAD all gone to script, motherhood would have already beckoned for prodigious talent Coin Model.

Instead, the Richmond track record breaker will be looking to emulate the deeds of her star mum Champion Model and annex the coveted Ladbrokes Goulburn Gold Cup (440m).

Last seen finishing down the track in the Nowra Puppy Classic in April, Coin Model, winner at five of her 11 starts, is one of a four-pronged attack trainer Andy Lord has on Friday's star-studded Cup heats.

FIELDS AND FORM GOULBURN FRIDAY

And the premier conditioner is confident that with even luck the gifted chaser can follow in the footsteps of her superstar mum Champion Model which raced to Goulburn Cup glory in 2017.

"I basically retired her after Nowra with the plan to start breeding with her but she didn't come on season so I decided to put her back into work," Lord said.

One Hot Bandit is one of a quartet of runners Andy Lord has in the Goulburn Cup

"Ability-wise she's the fastest I've ever had but she's had a few issues in the past on the track and I'm confident she'll make a super brood bitch so I was keen to get that underway.

"She had other ideas."

Coin Model has drawn box two in heat three of the Goulburn Cup where she has been installed a $2.80 favourite for her racing return.

"She's trialling sensational and has trialled 24.20 at Goulburn – that's how quick she is," Lord said.

"I don't think there's a lot of pace in her heat so I'm hoping she can lead and win. She just needs to be in the top three early."

Lord will be represented by Nangar Larry ($4.40) in the opening heat from box eight while in the second qualifier, One Hot Bandit ($1.80), fourth in last week's Million Dollar Chase Final, has drawn box two.

In the final heat, the promising Bandit Bullet ($4.60) looms as one of the leading contenders, making his return from a short lay-off.

"I haven't had Nangar Larry for all that long and he's only really now starting to settle in at home," Lord said.

"He's trialling well at Goulburn and box eight should suit.

"With One Hot Bandit, Goulburn is his home track and he should get a good run from the inside draw. He'll be very hard to beat.

Goulburn is set for a massive day of racing this Friday

"And Bandit Bullet in the last heat is a good chance as well, I'm happy where he is at for his return. He loves Goulburn."

The winner of next week's Group 3 Goulburn Cup Final will pick up a cool $40,000 on what is shaping up as a monster day of racing action.

"I remember winning my first Goulburn Cup I don't know how long back," Lord said.

"I dead-heated and it was worth I think $8,000 at the time. It's come a long way."

Lord has won two Goulburn Cups in more recent times courtesy of Let It Develop in 2015 before Champion Model's victory in 2017.
