Lure Strife Forces Capalaba Heats Shift

THREE rescheduled heats of the time-honoured Michael Miller Memorial will be run at Capalaba on Wednesday.

A lure problem during the running of the third heat of the series at Capalaba on Sunday caused it to be a “no race” and the rest of the meeting was abandoned.

Club official Erin Cameron said a drive shaft coupling was slipping during the running of race six and while it was completed, stewards ruled it a “no race”.

“We tried to get the lure fixed as the day went on but it kept slipping and there was no option to end the days racing,” she said.

Two heats of the Michael Miller Memorial had been won by Ivana Keeping and Pink Flyer and they will go into next Sunday's rich final.

A ballot will be held between the runners in the third heat, race 6 on Sunday which was declared a “no race”.

The Capalaba Club contacted Racing Queensland in regards to the feature event and it was then decided to stage them as part of Wednesday's meeting.

“Trainers have the right to scratch from those three heats on Wednesday if they wish,” Cameron said.

Trials at Capalaba on Monday have been cancelled and Cameron she the club was certain the lure drift shaft coupling would be repaired before Wednesday.

The Michael Miller Memorial has been part of the Capalaba fixtures since 2006 shifting to the straight track after being inaugurated at the Toowoomba track.
