Lords Produce Another Ladies Bracelet ‘Pearl'

BOX five confronts Andy and Jodie Lord as the premier trainers chase a Group 3 winning double at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

BOX five confronts Andy and Jodie Lord as the premier Wentworth Park trainers chase a Group 3 double in the Evans & Son Ladies Bracelet and Beast Unleashed Bob Payne Sprint on Saturday night.

The Lords are striving to win the female-only Ladies Bracelet and male-restricted Bob Payne for the first time, with Midnight Spritz and One Hot Bandit respectively.

Both have drawn box five for the $25,000 to-the-winner 520m features.

While the Lords haven't ‘officially' won the Ladies Bracelet, the prolific Gunning kennel are chasing back-to-back victories of sorts.

Their former champion She's A Pearl won the Ladies Bracelet Appreciation last year, the event ‘downsized' after the Bracelet meeting was abandoned.

Hoping to erase that disappointment, the Lords have the fastest qualifier in sizzling 29.42 heat winner Midnight Spritz.

"They robbed us of a bracelet last year!" Andy Lord laughed.

"Midnight Spritz is a different type of bitch to She's A Pearl.

"She's a lot stronger and I'm hoping 600 or 700 metres might be her go."

A daughter of Tommy Shelby and Racing Boots, Midnight Spritz set Wentworth Park alight for the second week running in the Bracelet heats, having posted a similarly impressive 29.46 one week earlier.

Winner of nine from 20, with eight of those wins coming at the Glebe circuit, Midnight Spritz is the $3.50 second elect in Bracelet betting, with Lord believing the middle draw could play in her favour.

"I think she's well-boxed; all the speed is on her inside," he said.

"She should get a nice run over.

"She ran 29.53 at Wenty a couple of months ago, so she's always had the ability to run the times she's running now.

"I do think she has a good race in her and if she gets a cart across on Saturday night she'll be hard to beat."

While Lord is optimistic Midnight Spritz will be a middle distance force in the future, Saturday night's Bob Payne contender One Hot Bandit is definitely heading down a staying path.

However, the powerful son of Barcia Bale and Nino De Oro, winner of the G3 Magic Maiden in 2023, has shown he's more than capable of picking up another feature sprint trophy on the way through.

One Hot Bandit ran third in a Golden Easter Egg semi-final and was then narrowly beaten when runner-up in the G3 The Ambrosoli Consolation.

He was rewarded for his recent consistency in his Bob Payne heat when getting the better of Easter Egg finalist Nad Al Sheba, drawing clear to score by three-quarters in 29.64, his 15th win from 33 starts.

One Hot Bandit is an $8.50 chance in the Bob Payne, with Easter Egg runner-up Zipping Megatron (box 1) $1.80 favourite.

"It's a hard final; he'd need to do everything right to win," Lord said.

"But if there's any trouble in the race, he can take advantage of it.

"If he can get out like he did last week and camp on them it might be a different story.

"We'll be getting him back up to ‘700' again very soon and he's more an each-way chance on Saturday."
