Aston Exceed Can Reach Dizzy Stud Heights

ASTON Exceed, a half-brother to the great Aston Rupee, was destined for greatness himself before injury curtailed his grand career upstart.

RAY Borda is something else.

Now Australia's biggest owner simply by numbers alone, he also continues to have the faith in his bloodlines only the Wheelers and Hallinans can match.

Ray sticks to his guns and so he should. He's been proving his methods for decades now.

ASTON EXCEED AT STUD

Which is why Ray has already told Newhaven Stud's Nick De La Roche he has every faith in recently retired Aston Exceed (Fernando Bale-Aston Miley).

That faith will see Ray put Group 1 Hume Cup winning bitch Aston Velvet (Aston Kimetto-Aston Jadore) to Aston Exceed for one of his very first matings.

That is saying something for Aston Exceed.

Aston Velvet also won the Listed Pink Diamond Distance, was third in the G1 Sandown Cup and a finalist in the G1 Super Stayers, G1 Rookie Rebel etc.

Ray dabbles in thoroughbreds as well.

If Aston Exceed was a racehorse, he would be syndicated by one of the major Hunter Valley studs for $10 million and be standing at a service fee of $30,000.

Aston Exceed is one of the best bred greyhounds in the world … yes, we will repeat that. He is one of the best bred greyhounds in the world.

Ray Borda knows what the major players in the horse industry look for in prospective top sires, most of it surrounding racetrack performances, but with a huge emphasis on pedigree.

So, it's easy to see why he believes Aston Exceed deserves his chance at stud.

The son of legend Fernando Bale, his dam Aston Miley was third in the G2 Geelong Cup and a finalist at G1 level in the Melbourne Cup as well as the G2 Warragul Cup.

Her litter brother, Aston Dee Bee (Barcia Bale-Aston Elle) won 35 races and $798,000 in stakes claiming the G1 Melbourne Cup.

All eight of that litter were winners claiming 97 races for a few bucks short of $1 million in prizemoney.

Aston Miley chased home her litter brother Aston Dee Bee in that Melbourne Cup.

Since going to stud herself, Aston Miley has been a goldmine … yes a goldmine.

She is the dam of litters by KC And All, Brett Lee and Fernando Bale.

To KC And All she is the dam of Aston Rupee (23 wins, $596,000, G1 Topgun, G1 Temlee, Sandown TR, Angle Park TR) and his brother Aston Fastnet (11 wins, $76,000, G3 Warragul St Leger, finalist G1 Maturity) both of them now at stud. All but one of her progeny have won.

They also include Aston Flame (G3 Nth Districts Cup, Shepparton TR), Aston Maeve (3rd G1 Nat Futurity) and Aston Lee (multiple Group finalist).

Aston Exceed's litter also contained Aston Lira (3rd Pink Diamond Rookie, finalist G3 Vic-bred Maiden). All six of his litter were winners.

BUT, Aston Exceed was a “rocket” on the racetrack.

From just 11 starts, he won eight and in six of those he ran best of the day and “scorched” in them all.

He showed from just 11 starts a glimpse of what he could do, but showed the promise of what his half brother Aston Rupee delivered in time.

It is why Ray Borda and Newhaven Stud have given Aston Exceed every chance to “excel” at stud.

Aston Exceed is bred on the now famous “nick” of a daughter of Barcia Bale going to Fernando Bale. It is proven to G1 level throughout the land. The combination of two of the greatest stud dogs of the modern era.

But, it also brings in the Aston Elle/Elite Oriental/Knocka Norris damline that has been producing greats, and great stud dogs, for decades.

It is the direct damline of Awesome Assassin.

Aston Exceed is in-bred to this family which augurs well for him at stud.

He carries Bombastic Shiraz close up in his damline to help him greatly succeed at stud.

Duplicating Bombastic Shiraz has been a force behind the success of Aston Dee Bee at stud. Many of his G1 performers are bred along these lines. G1 star Vice Grip is the standout.

It is not a theme restricted just to Aston Dee Bee.

Daughters of Fabregas, too, should suit Aston Exceed. There is no doubting the “nick” between Fernando Bale and Fabregas is one of the world's great combinations.

But, Aston Dee Bee has also done well when combined with Fabregas. And so too has Knocka Norris (his sister Elite Oriental is the 3rd dam of Aston Exceed).

Duplicating Bombastic Shiraz can be picked up via bitches with Feral Franky and his brother Good Odds Harada, Blazin Bomber, Glen Gallon, Hay Fergus, Mr Twister and anything with Bit Chili in the pedigree (and there are plenty).

Barcia Bale, as damsire of Aston Exceed, will have a HUGE say in his chances of success. Barcia is able to upgrade many lines. He does extremely well when mated to US bloodlines.

The success of Orson Allen is one example. Orson Allen is by KC And All from Barcia Bale's litter sister Desalle Bale.

And, who can forget Aston Exceed's mother Aston Miley went to KC And All to produce superstar Aston Rupee.

It does not take an Einstein to work out that daughters of KC And All will be a perfect match for Aston Exceed.

This too can extend to daughters of Orson Allen to bring in a 3×3 of the littermates Barcia Bale and Desalle Bale.

The Wheeler family has used Barcia Bale with their own dog Allen Deed with great success and that makes daughters of Allen Deed a perfect match for Aston Exceed.

Remember, too, that Allen Deed's G1 Melbourne Cup winning son Yachi Bale is out of a daughter of Fernando Bale (sire of Aston Exceed).

We are seeing more and more that duplicating Gold Rush Bale and her family is a source of great success. G1 star David Bale (sire of Fanta Bale) is bred on this cross, and so are many of Allen Deed's best.

Dyna Tron is a great source of Gold Rush Bale and this cross with Barcia Bale is proven in champion Shima Shine.

An interesting potential mating could be to bitches with Stagger in their pedigree.

Take a look at the pedigree of boom galloper Rejuvenate and his brother Hot Scotch. They carry a cross of the litter brothers, Knockabout Wok (in Knocka Norris and Elite Oriental) and Puzzle Prize (in Stagger's damline).

Of course, Aston Exceed is line bred to the Wheeler family's famous foundation bitch Gail's Beauty through Fernando Bale's direct damline and through Lansley Bale in Barcia Bale's damline.

There is no doubt this can be greatly reinforced. Daughters of Dyna Double One could be a great source of this.

Interesting too is the fact both Fernando Bale and Barcia Bale have done exceptionally well when linked to Kinloch Brae and Cosmic Rumble. Fernando Bale in particular does well with Cosmic Rumble's close relation Collision.

All of these aspects should be considered with Aston Exceed.

And, Barcia Bale is proven to G1 level with Premier Fantasy (i.e. Mepunga Blazer and Orchestrate).

Aston Dee Bee's legend daughter, She's A Pearl, is out of a daughter of Jagger Swagger (a son of Premier Fantasy).

All of this augurs well for Aston Exceed at stud.

And, the difference between Aston Exceed as a greyhound star, and the same as a thoroughbred just retiring, is about $29,000 a service.
