All In Readiness For TAB Racing At Taree

IT'S a new beginning for racing on the mid-north coast of NSW this Wednesday with Taree staging its much-hyped inaugural TAB race meeting.

IT'S a new beginning for greyhound racing on the mid-north coast of New South Wales this Wednesday with the Taree club staging its much-hyped inaugural TAB race meeting.

With participants in the region starved of TAB racing opportunities for far too long, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) declared their intentions to remedy the situation and deliver TAB racing to Taree late last year.

And following considerable works to the venue in recent months, the controlling body delivers on that promise this week in what's been flagged as a huge boon for the future of greyhound racing in the region.

"Wednesday will be an exciting day for the Taree Greyhound Club, for participants on the Mid North Coast, and for Greyhound Racing NSW," GRNSW CEO Tony Mestrov said.

"We had hoped this day would come a bit earlier with the anticipated launch of TAB racing at Taree in April, but obviously with the COVID-19 situation, everything changed.

"But the club – along with the GRNSW track team – have continued working to ensure the facility is ready for their big day, and after the Non-TAB meeting ‘dress rehearsal' held two weeks ago, everything is in readiness for Wednesday."

When GRNSW announced that much needed TAB racing was slated for Taree, the local participant base was understandably elated with the prospect of racing for heightened prize money.

But it's not just on the track that the club will feel the benefits, with a spike in sponsorship interest following news that meetings would be showcased on Sky Channel.

"Taree hosting this TAB meeting is quite significant not only for the club, but also for industry," Mestrov said.

"Part of the GRNSW Strategic Plan released in 2018 stated that all participants should have access to TAB racing, and the Mid North Coast had been one region where it was lacking. It's wonderful to see that has now been remedied.

"I wish the club, the participants and all in the region the best of luck for what will be a huge day.

“And on behalf of GRNSW, I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to local member Mr. Stephen Bromhead. His ongoing support to the project has been greatly appreciated.”
